MUSC CARES for the Unhoused T-shirt Fundraiser

At the Medical University of South Carolina, we believe in caring for those in need, and that's why we're thrilled to launch this special fundraising campaign. By purchasing one of our fantastic T-shirts, you'll not only be dressing in style but also contributing to our incredible beneficiaries: the CARES for the Unhoused clinic and street medicine initiative, as well as Turn90.
T-shirt details: Gildan 5000 cotton T-shirt in the color natural. Available in S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL and 4XL. T-shirts will be available for pick up on campus by mid-September. Announcements on pick-up location and times to follow. Any concerns please contact lamicq@musc.edu.
About CARES for the Unhoused
The MUSC CARES for the Unhoused Medical Clinic includes two clinical efforts managed by MUSC students:
CARES at the Navigation Center is a beacon of hope for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Since 2018, the clinic has brought together MUSC students, residents and attending physicians to serve hundreds of patients, providing essential health care services, routine check-ups and even specialty referrals. We partner with the Navigation Center, which provides a full spectrum of social services for those experiencing housing instability, empowering them to rebuild sustainable, independent lives for themselves and their families. This incredible collaboration ensures that no one is left behind in their journey to a better future.
But the impact doesn't stop there!
MUSC CARES takes its mission to the streets with Street Medicine. Our passionate team of MUSC students, residents and attending physicians team up with community partners to provide medical care and crucial social services in street-based locations and homeless camps throughout Charleston and North Charleston. These areas have been identified as high traffic for unsheltered individuals, making our services all the more critical.
With approximately 100 impromptu "appointments" each month, we conduct wellness checks, wound care and vaccinations, and manage acute and chronic conditions. Our care doesn't stop at a single visit; we follow some of the same individuals week after week, providing high-quality and continuous care to those who might not access it otherwise.

Added bonus: the T-shirts you'll be wearing are printed by Turn90, a nonprofit organization that believes in offering a new direction for men at the highest risk of re-arrest. Through their evidence-informed model of prison reentry, Turn90 combines cognitive-behavioral classes, supportive services, transitional work and job placement to create an opportunity for success after prison. With their Turn90 Print Shop, every graduate is placed in a job with competitive wages, benefits and potential for advancement.
