MUSC Hollings Cancer Center's No Golf Tournament
Benefiting the Cancer Patient Support Fund

This should be an invitation to join us at Turtle Point as we celebrate our 25th Annual MUSC Hollings Cancer Center Golf Tournament. How we wish we were able to get together to golf, drink Firefly, eat barbecue and raise money for cancer patients! Instead, we are writing to let you know it is in the best interest of our golfers, sponsors, and volunteers to cancel this year’s tournament. Many of our cancer patients participate in the tournament and we would never do anything to jeopardize their well-being.

Cancer isn't canceled

While the tournament has been canceled this year, cancer has not. An estimated 31,710 people are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in South Carolina in 2020. As the only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center in South Carolina, many cancer patients and their families must travel to receive the level of care available at Hollings Cancer Center.

Many are here for days or even weeks at a time. Our bone marrow transplant patients must find somewhere to live locally for up to 100 days after they leave the hospital. We can usually depend on one of our partners to provide free lodging, but they’ve been forced to close because of the pandemic. Can you imagine having to pay for food and a hotel room in Charleston for 100 days, on top of the cost of cancer treatment?

The money raised by you during our annual golf tournament helps patients with these out-of-pocket costs and advances lifesaving research at Hollings. While we can’t golf together this year, we can still come together to help make the lives of our patients a little easier. Will you help cancer patients by making a generous donation online today?

Thank you and save the date!

Thank you for your ongoing support in changing what’s possible in cancer care! We look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary with you in person Sept. 20, 2021.
