About the Charity - MUSC Children's Health
All net proceeds benefit the Charles P. Darby Pediatric Research Institute.
In 2020 we witnessed the opening of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility that brings the best care and compassion to children in South Carolina and beyond. Dr. Charles Darby recognized that all top ranked children hospitals achieve their stature based not only on their outstanding clinical care, but also on their outstanding research performances. That’s why through Dr. Darby’s efforts and vision, the research arm of the Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital is supported by the Darby Children’s Research Institute. In Charlie’s own words, “Quality clinical care is essential for every children’s hospital, but it is the constant quest for new knowledge and better outcomes that set the better institutions apart from the rest”. We strive for the Darby Children’s Research Institute to be nationally recognized and perform impactful science that can be translated to enrich the wellness of children. This will be achieved by continuing to support the resources needed to perform cutting edge science and recruit talented faculty and the next generation of researchers in our targeted areas of research that include cancer, cardiology, neuroscience, neonatal health and wellness, kidney function, and lung development and disease.
