Dan and Julie's Story
A second chance. That is exactly what my husband Dan received just shy of 10 years ago. Dan had been living with Polycystic Kidney Disease, but we hoped he would
never suffer from life-threatening issues. Unfortunately, the day came when his kidneys started to fail. We were forced to swiftly educate ourselves on the world of dialysis and organ transplants.
After weighing our options, we chose to jump on the fast-track with the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Within 3 months, they determined I was a perfect match for Dan and the transplant was scheduled immediately. This life-changing event shook our family to the core and we realized that we had important choices to make beyond our own initial medical plan. And so we did.
We chose to fight the good fight… to make things better for those coming behind us… to help those that can’t help themselves… to be the voice for those that can’t speak up… to give of our resources and time to support the brilliant minds saving lives every day.
This is why we became founding members of MUSC’s Living Donor Institute right here in Charleston, SC. And, it is no coincidence that the upcoming event that supports this institute is called: The MUSC Living Donor Institute “Second Chance” Golf Invitational. Amazing work is being done right here in our own backyard. And you can play a part in it.
Over the past 3 years, our team has raised over $500,000 with the support of some amazing business partners, individual friends, and family. These funds directly support ground-breaking research being done in the Lee Patterson Allen Immunobiology Lab at MUSC, patient/donor education, and patient/donor financial support.
Please consider joining us in our mission to provide many more second chances by helping us reach our personal goal of sponsoring 5 holes at this year’s event! $2500 is a big feat, but I know, together, we can do it! We would love nothing more than to see: “This hole has been sponsored by Friends & Family of Dan Allen (donor recipient) and Julie Allen (donor)” along with full awareness that these sponsorships are directly supporting the institute that has given us so much – LIFE!
As many know, Dan is awaiting his second transplant and we are waiting to hear if my sweet sister-in-law Beth is a match for him. Please continue to keep them in your prayers - I can hardly wait to see him healthy and whole again, truly living his life free of kidney disease.
Thank you all for your support!
